About DJ A.J. HughesA New York transplant from Phoenix, AZ, A.J. Hughes has been following his passion for music and honing his talents for over ten years. He started out DJing high school parties in his basement when he was 16. In college he was a weekly presence at all the top dance music venues assisting promoters set up for international DJ sets. He can never get enough new music and always has an up-to-date pop and dance music collection.
As a DJ, no one can question A.J.’s versatility; whether he’s creating a night woven with dark and mysterious electronic beats or charging up the dance floor with strong vocals backed with hard grooves and popular seventies and eighties timeless hits. He intuitively works a room with his creative mixing and programming style, playing music for the masses, as well as the most discriminating audiences.
A.J. never plans a set. He’s never routine or predictable. He never just 'settles' for what's current or being played by every other DJ. He puts on a track and goes from there and gladly takes you with him. His versatility enables him to adapt to any crowd or environment. His style ranges from progressive house to electro rock and he’ll always surprise you with some great forgotten dance hits from seventies, eighties, and nineties.
While A.J. has been heard at numerous venues and events, he can be found Friday and Saturday nights as the resident DJ at The Toolbox, an Upper East Side boys bar. His popular style of music includes a broad blend of styles, using different songs to create music that flows seamlessly through the night.
